Happy Birthday!!

Well today isn't his birthday, but March 16th was. Our little man is now 1 year old. It is hard to believe that a few years ago he and his sister were just dreams of ours. We longed to be dads, and now it is so.

It is humbling to think of how those important to us, gave so much so that our dream could come true. THANK YOU MELINDA, Melinda's family and our families for being so supportive. Also thanks to all of friends who are playing such and important role in their (and our) lives. We are blessed to have such good role models, both gay and straight, for our kids.

Changed Perspetives

I love crime shows and "who done its" along with action films. I mean at one point in my life most of my TV, movie or even reading consisted of something that would fall into on or more of these categories. Nothing excited me more than a crime drama with some action thrown in. However since the kids have arrived, this has changed somewhat.

While I still enjoy these things (unsolved mysteries, Criminal minds, Law and order) my view point and emotions I experience have changed since the kids have arrived. This is particularly true if a child is involved in the story line. I have even stopped watching the program if it is to disturbing.

I continue to find it surprising how much having kids in my life has impacted EVERY facet of my life. While I certainly expected my time to be affected, I did not fully realize how even the smallest part of me would be included in this change.

I can say my life certainly has changed for the better.

Time, Time, Time

Time sure has gotten away from me. A couple of months have passed since I posted and our lives here have been quite busy.

The kids now consume most of our time and our planning, but we love it (most of the time). Tekla is now not only in swim classes, but I'm taking her to Gymnastics once a week as well. A 2 1/2 year old, geez, but it is good for her socialization. She has a fantastic Nanny here at home, but because she doesn't go to daycare, getting around other kids is great for her.

Bode is growing up so fast. He is now walking and jabbering up a storm. He says a few words, Daddy, Hi, Bye, Nanny, but still no Papa.. I'm left out again...lol. He is facing his first birthday in a couple of weeks.. hard to believe a year has come and gone.

House projects have been underway. Elevator is installed, tile work is being finished in the new hallway and spring is around the corner so we will be getting busy in the yard getting it ready for the kids (and parents) to enjoy this summer.

While we do enjoy our kids, we have made a conscious effort to keep our relationship important. We occasionally make date nights where we get a hotel room, go to dinner, out for a drink or something, just to remind each other who we are. We also just took a weeks vacation and loved it. Missed the kids terribly, but we needed the break.

Now onto what has been happening in the world around us... DADT has been repealed. DOMA is basically dead and many people around the world are revolting against their governments wanting democracy (whether or not they are ready for it or not). I must say this is an exciting time to see the changes around us.
